Update from the Sunland
No.916
29.7.19 – 4.8.19

To all,
The follow-up news items:
-- Of course, the BIC is not satisfied with simple chaos; he insists upon keeping things at a roiling boil. Apparently, dissatisfied with the slow movement of PRC-USA trade talks, the BIC announced yet more tariffs [802] against the PRC. The bludgeon is an interesting tool of negotiations. I wonder how the BIC would feel having a pistol put to his head, as a means of gaining his compliance.
-- New York State prosecutors in Manhattan issued subpoenas to the BIC’s [business] Organization for documents related to the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels [837] during the 2016 election campaign. We can only speculate about objectives, but my guess is fraudulent accounting. The BIC cannot yet be charged with election law violations, unless it is under articles of impeachment; however, there is always hope for prosecution after he is out of office.
-- Wow! The BIC’s choice to replace DNI Coats [915] lasted all of five days, and his nomination did not have enough time to even reach the Senate. Then, as reality sank in, the BIC, as is his modus operandi, tried to convince us his vetting process is in fine form, and taking it to an even more bizarre level, the BIC declared the Press is part of the vetting process (to save the government money). The hypocrisy, duplicity and incompetency of the man is beyond words in the English language—even the profane. The BIC’s name is synonymous with chaos. And, this is the man that millions of American citizens admire. Even during the worst of the anti-war protests and racial violence of the 60s & 70s, there was always hope . . . and faith in the resiliency of this Grand Republic. The BIC has caused or induced such corrosion of the very foundation and fabric of this once great nation that he is erasing hope; it is vanishing. I wonder if this is how good German citizens felt in 1933, as the tentacles of Hitler’s Nazi beast sank deeper into the sinew of their society?
Congress passed and the president signed into law the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019 [PL 116-xxx; H.R. 3877; Senate: 67-28-0-5(0); House: 284-149-0-0(2); 132 Stat. xxx]. Of particular interest: Title III, §301 of the law suspended the federal debt ceiling until 31.July.2021. What, me worry? The whole bunch of them have kicked any hope of fiscal restraint into the next congress and administration. Neither political party in either chamber of congress has shown even the slightest spending restraint; they all spend money they do not have. Even a drunken sailor on a long overdue shore leave eventually runs out of cash. This latest bill just removed the only constraint, albeit artificial, that Congress faced. And, worse, the Republican majority in both chambers of the last Congress gave corporations and the wealthy, connected citizens a massive tax cut, making the spending deficit even more acute.
Comments and contributions from Update no.915:
“If AOC and company have the right to stand anywhere and try to rip apart our country we and our President who is there to represent us should also have the right to speak out against it .. works both ways Cap ...
“Everything said by the President is immediately labeled racist because it appears to be the left’s only means of retaliating .. they have no other valid platform to campaign on.”
My reply:
So, someone who is critical of the United States is trying “to rip apart our country,” someone who is critical of Israel is anti-Semitic, and someone who is critical of the BIC is a T***p-hater. Are you (and others) suggesting we should all just “see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil”? Yes, the BIC is in that office to represent us all, to represent the ideals of this Grand Republic. There is absolutely no question that the BIC represents a minority in the United States, e.g., white supremacy groups on the rise, white supremacy acts of violence significantly increased, et cetera ad infinitum ad nauseum. The so-called Squad are critical of U.S. policy and rightly so. The lifeblood of democracy is vigorous dissent. I do not happen to agree with how they say it, but they have valid points. The BIC is NOT a private citizen. He also does not represent a narrow district of constituents. When the BIC says outrageous things that have no basis in fact, he sets himself up for serious criticism by folks like me, who reject his juvenile ad hominem attacks on people who criticize him; I will not give him credit for actually having cogent policies. The emperor has no clothes, and I will tell him to his face.
No, “everything said by the President is immediately labeled racist.” He does that all by his lonesome. “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.” [sic] That is a white supremacy, dog-whistle taunt that is centuries old—no ifs, ands or buts about it. And, he just keeps going. I have to admit that he may not be socially adept enough to even understand what racism is, but I believe he is saying the outrageous things he does because he wants to play directly to the white supremacist element within this Grand Republic. I do give him credit, though; he has brought white supremacy into the main stream of public discourse where they can be plainly seen. Unfortunately, some white supremacists feel emboldened by the BIC’s example, e.g., the Gilroy, California, mass shooting.
Those of us who are deeply critical of the BIC, including leftists, Socialists, and Communists, are defending this Grand Republic and the Constitution. We have become the great country we are and have been because of immigrants and those who have the courage to speak truth to power. The BIC’s persistent denial of Russian intrusion upon our democracy and our election process, despite the plethora of evidence, is corrosive and destructive to the very principles upon which this Grand Republic was founded. Those who persist in supporting the BIC are thus complicit. Think about it! As Edmund Burke so succinctly and eloquently observed (1790), “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
. . . Round two:
“All I can say to you is O..M..G. .. white supremists???? How about just people who love this country the way it has been and succeeded at being for over 300 years .. this includes ALL RACES !!! White Supremacy on the rise ?????? Wow.. what about Antifa and those who attack police officers?? Take your Anti-Trump blinders off Cap ...”
. . . my reply to round two:
I will OMG right back attya.
I eagerly await your explanation of innocence in the BIC’s “why don’t they go back . . .” words. I’m a proud American citizen who has served this Grand Republic with pride (more than the BIC ever did, I might add). I have defended the mistakes of our past (e.g., Constitution, Article I, Section 2, Clause 3). Heck, until 1981 in Louisiana, you were considered the property of your husband (when you were married); you had no rights, simply because you were born with a vagina. Your female ancestors could NOT vote until 1920. Until 1965, it was against federal law for anyone, including a doctor, to even mention set aside discuss or prescribe birth control. Surely, you are not suggesting we return to those days.
I reject violence as a solution except as a last resort. Truth be told, if I had to choose between white supremacist, neo-Nazis and Antifa, I choose the latter. At least, Antifa is not telling us how we should live our lives. Just for clarity, Antifa = antifaschistisch(anti-fascist), is a loosely affiliated movement that stands against fascism; in principle, count me among that group. I do not like their tactics & tools, but they have a worthy motive.
. . . Round three:
“As usual the media took Trump’s statement out of context or rather left out the entirety of it . If you ever decide to finally give up CNN or MSNBC etc you might get real truth. His statement was actually suggesting the persons involved go back to where they came from and FIX the problems riddling those areas before they criticize this country.. because where those persons came from whether it be another country or a part of the U.S. are in pitiful conditions, much worse off than the majority of the U.S.
“Of course all YOU are told is he said for them to go back to where they came from! It is so obvious Cap you cling onto anything you hear that berates Trump and conversely you discount anything that shows he is excelling. And you and the left still try to attribute anything positive as a residual of your Messiah Obama’s efforts. You say you aren’t leftist but you show all the sick symptoms.
“As for the Gilroy shooter you could do better research to learn the lad’s grandfather is Mideastern. And here is an excerpt of some of his recent writings on Instagram where he is also berating WHITES...
“‘In his last post (on Instagram), Legan also complained of paved-over nature and towns ‘overcrowd[ed]’ with ‘hoards of mestizos and Silicon Valley white twats.’ Some fascists, particularly those who follow the hyper-egoist school of thought laid out in Legan’s recommended book, criticize industrialization and Silicon Valley lifestyles as ‘degenerate.’
“He is actually more appropriately labeled a Fascist , a hyper-egoist, a bigot rather than a ‘WHITE SUPREMIST’ which along with RACIST seems to be the favorite description the LEFT uses for Trump and his supporters. So how appropriate they like to put Legan in our camp and they probably even blame Trump for just another crazy person that got his hands on a gun.
“Even though I am not innocent in the controversy of abortion and I am not proud of it, I do have to say I aborted within a week or so of discovering pregnancy. What is unimaginable is a woman waiting until after a heartbeat is present and shockingly some abortions occur much later even into the last month or two!! It’s all murder but HOW could anyone abort when the fetus is growing and protruding in their belly ?? When the fetus can cry out in pain?
“What was the worthy motive of the Antifa group pouring buckets of water on the police officers recently? Would Taylor have believed their motives were worthy if it had been him receiving the disrespect??”
. . . my reply to round three:
Alrighty then . . . I’ll bite. Please enlighten me. What is the proper context for the BIC’s “go back” to the places “from which they came”? I eagerly await your illuminating explanation. I included every single word the BIC wrote; I did not select or cherry-pick his words—every single word in all three related tweets. I thought the BIC was quite clear, but I will confess to the potential of my ignorance. I am only a journeyman student of the English language, at best. So, please educate me.
Obama was a very long way from Messiah status. He is a flawed man, as we all are. What I object to is erroneously reflecting his accomplishments and humanity. I have tried to reflect the BIC’s accomplishments in all fairness, but it is so bloody hard when he grossly exaggerates his potential accomplishments, and he rejects everything Obama did off-hand, just because it was signed by Obama. He refuses to address Russian election meddling simply because it might reflect badly on his vaunted image of himself.
I do not know your source. I do not recognize any facts in those words. So, I will leave it at that.
. . . Round four:
“Ok so he is not saying to just go away forever . If they can stand there and berate our country when their country of origin is so much worse off why don’t they first fix THAT country .. their talk is cheap .. same goes for the politician from Maryland where Baltimore is in shambles in many parts .. has nothing to do with the color/race he happens to be and has everything to do with being an ineffective leader and perhaps even corrupt as it has been brought to life that Obama gave him millions or billions yet where did it go ?
“It’s refreshing to once in our lifetime finally not have our country run and run over by corrupt, all talk no action politicians.”
. . . my reply to round four:
Opinions are fantastic instruments. Imagination is the limit and they don’t require substance.
You are whitewashing a very dark mantra. That is your choice. History is not on the side of the BIC or your argument. “he is not saying to just go away forever” Really? That’s the context and rationale for his racist taunt? As much as I despise the man as a human being, has anyone EVER thrown that taunt at him? There is no need to extend this discussion. I think most of us see his tweets for exactly what they were.
Have you listened to the criticism of this Grand Republic offered by any one or combination of the Squad? When does criticism become berating? I have long criticized Israel’s nationalistic steamroller tactics on the West Bank. Does that make me an anti-Semite? I criticize the BIC’s obscene ad hominem attacks on those who disagree with him and his foolish, shallow approach to cozy up to dictators. Does that make me anti-American? Let’s listen to what they say . . . take what has value . . . criticize their poor choice of words. I do not like how they say things, but there is value in the notions they are attempting to illuminate. As I wrote, they spoke with dignity, grace and eloquence in dramatic contrast to the BIC’s crude, juvenile, vapid tweets.
You are free to justify and rationalize the BIC’s juvenile taunts however you wish. I shall continue to call them out for exactly what they are. His tweets were racist taunts regardless of whether he intended them to be temporary or permanent.
My very best wishes to all. Take care of yourselves and each other.
Cheers,
Cap :-)

There's an old saying about Chump's approach: if your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Recent headlines, in general, have provided a distraction from the budget. They still do.
I've noticed that every one of Chump's supporters that I know or that I have seen on TV or whose opinions I have read comes across as authoritarian. “Follow the leader” is not a value system but an evasion of responsibility.
Good morning to you, Calvin,
The old saying is spot on and quite appropriate. The BIC only knows the hammer.
There will always be distractions, which is the reason I take the time to read as my of the laws Congress is passing as I can.
Quite so. To me, it is the grotesque hypocrisy of tribal politics that has so deeply infected our public intercourse and attempts at reasonable debate.
“That’s just my opinion, but I could be wrong.”
Cheers,
Cap
